The commissioner orders Tom to investigate the latest of 12 -usually frequent- deaths in a retirement home; autopsy confirms at least one was a result of poisoning by injection. The Antwerp Zoo director reports repeated vandalism, no break-in.

Only after he finds out she has serious gambling debts, Tom takes an interest in what proves to be the major case.
