S10·E12 – Nagasaki Goto Islands Farewell Ferry
2019-05-10 • ? min
Spring, the season of farewells. On Fukue Island, the gateway to the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture, there is a scene that has become an annual tradition. People from all over the island gather to bid farewell to those leaving the island. People leave the island for various reasons, such as employment, further education, or marriage. At the terminal lobby, they embrace family, colleagues, classmates, and students, exchanging tearful words before boarding the ferry. Over three days in late March, they watch as those embarking on new beginnings in unfamiliar lands set off on their journeys.
